On Sunday, March 19, I turned 54. Not a milestone year for all intents and purposes, but for some reason, it was a profound birthday. I can’t explain it. I just felt thankful, happy, and contemplative all at once.
As friends and family called and messaged me, I laughed, they sang, we celebrated, and Carl and I ended the day with a birthday dinnner at a restaurant he knew I wanted to try. Oh, and there was birthday cheesecake for dessert at home!
All the while, I thought about “things”. I cried a tear or two. I missed my dad signing “Happy Birthday” to me. Those of you who sang to me were amazing, by the way. I just missed hearing Dad’s voice. Happy and thoughtful emotions were all tangled together like a grapevine.
So, I mused, from the simple to the profound. What will my garden look like this summer? What dress should I sew? What book will I read after I finish Lady Clementine? What am I doing with this life I have been given? What am I creating that is long lasting? What special memories will Carl and I make with family and friends? How do I impact others for the kingdom of Christ? Do I impact others for the kingdom of Christ? All the things…
I wanted to write a blog post on the actual birthday, but I just didn’t know what to say. I thought about what is most important to me and I reminded myself to be purposeful in devoting time to those things first and foremost. Focused, intentional. Basically, faith, family (friends) and farm matter most.
So, my intentions for this new trip around the sun are to spend more time in God’s word, more time with family and friends, and enjoy the farm even more. My goal, to record this year and all of the happenings in my new journal (courtesy of @Carry_Media and @PaulaFaris). I recently got to be part of her launch team for her latest book, You Don’t Have to Carry It All, which was a fantastic read for you moms out there, or grandmoms, or aunts, or husbands…basically anyone who is mom or supports moms! The launch team was a great experience, but that is another story for another day!
To kick-off this new year of life on planet earth, I spent some time in God’s word. Here are fifty-four of some of my favorite scriptures to mark this birthday. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
I am so thankful for yet another year. I can’t wait to see what is in store as my 55th year begins to unfold. #BeLight
Fondly from the farm,
Laura
