Simplicity

Here we are, two weeks into 2020, and I am defining my vision for the new year. My hope is for simplicity in all things. Simplicity means that things are uncomplicated and clear. My commitment in 2020, whether I am at work or at home, is for simplicity to rule the day!

Here at The Farm, as I seek simplicity, my goal is to purge excess clutter, one room at a time. I have joked with family members that 2020 is the “Year of the Purge”. Well, the Purge has begun!

Here is a glimpse of our master bath renovation that was started last week. Project #1 of the Purge!

Yikes! Well, I am certainly not too proud to share the worst of the worst! When the tile was ripped out, the water damage was discovered. It really wasn’t a surprise, but the damaged floor got me thinking about what is underneath the surface that can’t be seen on a daily basis in our lives.

Sometimes, it is necessary to strip away all the figurative trim, tile, layers of paint and take a serious look at the foundation. The start of a new year (and decade) is a great time to take an introspective look at our foundations. Often, work is needed to repair the damage that the busyness of life creates. Before we know it, there can be structural damage!

So, for me, as I purge the house of excess clutter and take on projects, big and small to improve the farm, I will keep this verse in mind:

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…”

Hebrews 6:19

Whatever your daily routine may be, or if you are in a season of extra responsibilities that can be stressful, I hope you will find comfort in the fact that in Christ we have a hope who anchors our souls, firm and secure. May you rest in this truth!

I will keep you posted on the progress in the bathroom with pictures! I am so thankful for experts who know what they are doing! As for the so called Purge, I will let you know how that goes as well. So far, I have tackled a closet under the stairs and my clothes closets are next on my list. Notice I wrote closets plural. Therein is part of the reason for the Purge!

Simplicity, my friends! May it be a reality for each of us who desire it in 2020!
