‘Tis the Season

…to feel tired, weary and more! Back to school season is upon us and if you work in an educational setting you know what Friday “teacher tired” feels like. If you are a parent of a child or children going back to school, you know the joys of the information packets, school supply lists, back to school shopping and the busy pace of the school week.

This is year twenty-two for me in education and each year I feel a range of emotion from excitement for the new year to exhaustion gearing up for all of the meetings and b.o.y. events (beginning of the year in school jargon). Here I am on the first day of school this year.

Over the last few weeks, God has placed on my heart the need for rest and a reset for the new school year. For me that is a break from my personal social media accounts. I even took the apps off my phone. I just want to unplug and enjoy what is real! Of course, we will continue to update the farm pages because that’s how we share about our farm-fresh beef and pork products, but as for the personal accounts, I am over the endless promptings to what mindless reels and ads of Facebook and Instagram. I need break!

I can’t help but think about Jesus and his words in Matthew 11:28 – 30.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

“I don’t know about y’all, but as Carl and I juggle the demands of the farm, family obligations and our full-time jobs off the farm, the idea of rest for my soul is amazing! The peace I feel each morning when I spend time resting in him and studying his word is tangible! Over the last few weeks, these verses have been ones I chose to memorize and these words serve as a gentle reminder each day.

So, as the 2025-26 school year unfolds, whether you are working in a school, homeschooling, parenting school-age children, or you don’t have anything to do with a school schedule but you feel the cultural pull of excess and more, look to the only real source for rest for your soul, Jesus Christ. He promises that when we come to him, he will give us rest.

Take care!
